On 15th June we had a coach trip to The Place for Plants at East Bergholt, Suffolk and then on the Beth Chatto’s garden in Essex. The weather was very hot and we started at The Place for Plants with a look around the gardens and a browse of their garden centre, after being greeted by one of the owners. Even at this stage of the year the ponds had started to dry up. Members could also have refreshments and sat outside to enjoy the sunshine.

Then it was on the coach again this time headed towards Beth Chatto’s garden near Colchester. These gardens are adapted for dry and wet conditions and we all saw plants that we should have for our gardens now the weather is getting warmer. Again members could partake in a cake and drink as well as purchasing plants from their nursery. Lots of members returned home with plants on the coach.

The only down side of the trip was the ride home. Unfortunately, on the was home on the A140 the coach was diverted because of an accident and it took rather a long while to get home! But the gardens were worth the visit and we all enjoyed them.
